Q. What was your first job in the steel industry?

A. As a Turn Supervisor in the structural shop in 1989 in Cleveland, Ohio for LTV Steel.

Q. What are the different positions you have had in the steel industry?

A. I have held many different titles over the past 20 years, now as the Vice President of Operations at Able Steel, with each new title gaining more responsibility and experience along the way.

 

Q. Where did you graduate from college? What was your major?

A. Ohio Northern University in 1989, home of the fighting Polar Bears. Majoring in Industrial Technology.

Q. How long have you been with Able Steel and what has been your positions with the company?

A. I have now been with Able Steel for 9 years, originally I started as the Production Control Manager, then I moved to Operations Manager and as of 2 years ago in my current position as Vice President of Operations.

Q. Where do you want to see Able Steel in 5 to 10 years? And what will contribute to that execution?

A. Continuing a moderate growth plan managing our risks and serving our customers as we have done over the past 34 years. Always striving for more efficient ways of producing our product and serving our customers. Recent start up of second beam processing line, new and upgraded beam camber line in addition to new software for linking all aspects of operations from estimating through production.

Q. What is you favorite thing about construction? Please explain.

A. The challenges with each project being different from the one before, also the pride of being Able to drive around the Valley and seeing the end product and knowing our company contributed to the success of many other organizations, from general contractors to owners.

Q. What do you enjoy doing with your time off? What are your hobbies?

A. Spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy competitive games, such as poker to monopoly and chess. I also enjoy all types of sport, especially Ohio State football.

Q. What role do you see technology influencing the continued growth of Able Steel and the steel industry?

A. Steel itself has not changed over the years, however the means in which it is processed has with improvements in equipment and management techniques. I see the introduction of BIM playing a huge role in the future of construction by eliminating many of the onsite conflicts before the product is actually produced.
